What? Cover art for a book called Coraline

Where? I was searching online and this cover is what appealed to me the most. 

Function?  To bring the viewer into the a part of the world that the Coraline lives in and to make the viewer want to read and become more apart of that world.  

Art Quality? The art quality of this cover art is very impressive to me for such an old book.  The artist is used a very dull background used bold, dark orange and green color throughout the entirety of the composition in an attempt to make you look at each drawn item.  

Art Style? Victorian art style 

Attraction?  I was attracted to this piece by the colors and by the cool drawing of the girl in the in the bright white rain coat placed dead in the center of the cover.
